Are you ready to go to your job interview? Here are some general tips you should consider before the interview takes place.
• Before the interview, don’t smoke, chew gum, eat garlic or onion; • Be dressed appropriately for the interview. • Take a copy of your resume or CV with. • Be punctual. • When given any applications to fill in before the interview, be sure that information you give corresponds to that in your resume and cover letter. Check the applications for the mistakes. • When greeting the interviewer, address him/her by the last name pronouncing it correctly. • Give a firm handshake (for men). • Show interest. Look around the room quick, then stay focused on the interviewer. • Sit down only after you are offered to. • Don’t start the conversation. • Be enthusiastic and show it both verbally and nonverbally. • Be sure to emphasize your accomplishments. • Behave in a professional way, use appropriate vocabulary, be deferential. • When something unexpected happens show a sense of humor. • Try to be brief when answering questions, but don’t limit your answers to only yes/no statements. • NEVER complain about your former job/boss. It is better not to complain about anything. • Do not answer and ask questions about politics/religion and the like if they are not relevant to the job. • Do not raise the question about salary first. It is usually done during the second interview and it is better when the interviewer touches upon the question. Do the salary range research for the potential position beforehand.
