It is true that up to 80 per cent of free job positions are not advertised. It is called a hidden job market. In order to profit from it and to have a chance to get a position you want using the opportunities opened by this kind of market, you have to be able to investigate it.
How to Research Hidden Job Market?
First of all, make sure you know what you are looking for, namely choose your desirable position. Second, make a list of companies or organizations you would like to work at. Then do you best to find out people in those companies whom you can contact (names, their positions, etc.).
There are two ways of contacting such people. If you know that the company needs an employee like you, you may ask for a job interview. If the company didn’t announce any job offering, ask for an informative interview, which will help you learn more about the industry and have your experience and skills evaluated by the qualified person.
Ways to find necessary people and companies: • Ask your friends who work in the sphere you are interested in whether they can offer any working possibilities in their companies. • Surf the internet. You may join online mailing lists of groups that relate to your job area or position. • Look for the potential employers in the telephone book. The biggest companies are among the most possible ones to be capable of offering a job position when not advertising it themselves. • Post your resume on internet and local newspapers. You may be lucky enough to get a job offer from the employer instead of applying yourself. In this case the success of your resume depends on how good it is written out.
Be sure to use the advantage of searching both the open and the hidden job markets. Don’t be afraid to take initiative and offer your service even when not being encouraged first.
