Change of Career: Let’s Start
Change of Career: Let’s Start

A lot of people think that their present job is not for life that’s why many of us change the place of work easily and often.  But to change a career is not so easy; it is difficult process which can’t be done so fast.  So we should determine where to start.

The first thing that comes into consideration when you want to change your career is financial obstacle. If you get a new job first you must have retraining and you won’t get any money for it. The worse alternative is when you have to pay for your retraining in getting new skills. And certainly it’s not easy to exchange your familiar security for something strange and unknown.

It’s so easy to support somebody’s intention to change his career and to make his dreams come true but it’s not realistic. But it’s not the reason to stop. You must make changes if you feel that your work place doesn’t satisfy you and you should admit this as soon as possible. And for sure it will take some time to get the money you want and deserve.

Here some advice for those who would like to nudge their career towards the job of their dreams:

1. Think over the idea that your present employer can help. If you have good relationships he will try to develop new working conditions which will be comfortable for you.
2. A lot of professions now are lack of qualified workers. So if you want to get paid during your training you can choose such professions as teaching, nursing and many others in the health service.
3. But if where there are shortages there is no strict recruitment and training schemes you should offer your candidacy for that employer you really want to work with by yourself. You can prove them that you are the one you need by showing them your knowledge and interest in their business. And if you succeed in this even basic trainee salary will better then no money at all.
4. Take into consideration part-time training, online courses which won’t bother your present job. This will be very appreciated by your new employer as he will see that this was a well weighed decision.
5. Investigate if there is any financial help for mature students at your local university or college. Educational establishments and other organizations have grants to those who can’t return to learning. This also makes some difference.
6. At your local college you may find the information about Individual Learning Accounts. These give incentives of 150 pounds that is 80% in the cost of training.
7. Find out any possible information about voluntary work opportunities. Significant experience is as valuable as qualifications. There are a lot of organizations which offer training. Such contacts can be very helpful in changing career.
8. Don’t forget that there are many alternatives. If you can’t get the job you want in one organization there may be others but they are easier to move into. For example, you want to be a vat but don’t have the qualifications take into consideration such work with animals as veterinary working, work in zoos, stables, catteries or kennels, animal welfare organizations. Widening of your idea will help you to find some more interesting options.
So go forward!
