Legislation, a patient’s insurance coverage and preferences, other factors also affect the physician services need. Patients require the most up-to-date therapies, technology, and tests especially when coverage is higher. Nurses, physician assistants and other healthcare workers lower the demand for physicians. Computerization of billing, scheduling, medical records, test orders, and prescription orders resulted in more effective physicians work. Now they are able to contact patients and providers from various locations with the help of technology. This fact also decreases the number of physicians.
Areas with low income, rural areas don't attract a lot of physicians and there are higher employment opportunities. New medical students are often attracted by shortages in certain specialized areas.
Only a small amount of new physicians choose self-employment and independent practice. The most of them work in clinics, group practices, and with health networks.
