What is Career Coaching

Work consumes much of our time. Spending half of the day or more at work should bring not only financial satisfaction but be also morally rewarding. Nevertheless, the situation in the modern world of business shows quite the opposite picture. Most of people work at the jobs they don’t like or even detest. Many wish they could have connected their life with the job more connected with their interests and hobbies. Dissatisfaction with the job results in massive nervousness and stress.

big_pictureCareer coaching is the process of cooperating with people who are tired of and dissatisfied with their job to help them free their potential and find the best career choice for future success. Coaching is usually done by professional coaches who aim to help an individual understand who he or she is, what his or her direct career goals are and how they could be achieved step-by-step.

Professional coaches are trained to listen to a client, notice and understand client’s personal needs and wishes and customize the coaching approach to each person individually. Every person is by nature creative and resourceful and knows what he or she wants to do in life even when this knowledge is unconscious. Coaches help people reveal all the wishes they have about their career and then devise a strategic plan to achieve the goals. Coaching incorporates the use of business knowledge, philosophy, psychology, finance and transformational work. However, coaches do not provide professional legal, medical or financial guidance. They are geared at helping a person determine how to succeed in professional life.

Individuals who should seek career coaching include the following:
• Persons laid off or passed over for a promotion
• Those who were unsuccessful trying to transit to a new career
• People who want to start their own business, develop leadership skills
• College graduates who are unsure how to start their career road

Career coaching sessions may be held in a variety of ways: in-person one-to-one coaching, group coaching or group workshops. Moreover, to meet the needs of busy professionals or those unable for certain reasons to attend personally coaching sessions, the latter could be conducted via telephone or internet.
